All the little unfinished projects from last year are complete; the studio is tidy; I’ve reflected on the past year and reviewed what worked and what didn’t; and have made ‘loose’ plans for the coming year. No resolutions, however, because I prefer to adopt Christine Kane’s concept of Word-of-the Year. Her article is well worth a read.  http://christinekane.com/powerful-lessons-word-year/

My word for 2016 is FREEDOM.

This word came to me very quickly and resonated deeply. I think because, like many of us, I put unreasonable restraints, and constraints, on myself by trying continually to please, to conform, to do the ‘right thing’. As far as my creative work goes, I need to allow myself the freedom – to explore new ideas; to play with materials and techniques without judgement; to not worry about the finished outcome before I even start; to make mistakes; to allow my muse to guide me without inhibition! Oh, and to remember that JOY is allowed!

‘The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.’ – Thucydides

Thank you for reading, I appreciate your support, and wish you all a happy, healthy and creative 2016.

I tried this last year Muriel; but honestly forgot about it about half way through the year! Still think it’s a great idea and hope you have better luck with your word. Like your word; I automatically think of my sister and the freedom I hope for her from the chains she’s put around her heart.
