HeidiHandDyes needs to take a break for a few months. It’s time to reassess; gather strength to tackle the challenges ahead; and to focus energy on lots of ‘doing’ – dyeing, printing, making, sewing, writing – all of the things that make my heart sing.

One of the things I hope to do is to work more with vintage letterpress. I was asked recently how the letterpress print of the Leonard Cohen quote I used in an earlier post turned out. Here it is as printed from the plate:Taking a break 3

And here it is with additional digital print.Ring the Bells

I love to combine old and new(ish) techniques, ie vintage letterpress with text added digitally. No doubt this text piece will find its way onto fabric, which will be cut up for use. I’m very mindful of copyright laws and would not use the complete quote, but rather just bits of the image as pattern.

Thank you to my subscribers who have joined me over the months. Your support, comments and emails have meant a lot to me, giving me the encouragement I needed to keep going at times, especially through some dark days. I hope to write a regular blog again and will let you know when HeidiHandDyes is back on track.

In the meantime, I wish you all peace, love, happiness, and boundless creativity, in the new year ahead.

Hi. It is a shame that your blogs will no longer be there to inspire and inform. I am sure you have, over the months, encouraged many to dye and print. I don’t work with fabrics, photography is my thing, but nevertheless I have been encouraged by your descriptions of the creative process involved in your craft. Well done. Enjoy your rest.

Thank you, a wee break is just what I need to take time to reassess and rethink my work plans.
